The Basics of Poker
Poker is a card game played with five to seven players. In some games, the ace counts as the lowest card. Other cards that may count as the lowest are 6-4-3-2-A and pair of aces. In many games, the lowest pair is the ace, but some variations treat it as the lowest card. The basic rules of Poker are explained later in this chapter. You can play Poker for free online or at a local casino.
In most poker games, there are at least three players, but the ideal number is six to eight. A pot is the total amount of bets made by all players in a given deal. A player can win the pot if he has the highest poker hand or places the most bets and no one else calls. In other variations, players must bet a minimum amount before they can make a bet. A minimum hand is a pair of jacks.
If you’re new to Poker, consider buying a guide to the game. Poker guides contain official rules, basic strategy tips, and hand rankings. Poker hand rankings help you make the right decision when playing. A Royal Flush is the highest-ranked hand, followed by a Straight Flush. A poker hand can also be low, but only if you have an Ace. Buying a poker hand is an important part of winning and losing a game.
