Poker is a card game that is played from a standard pack of 52 cards (some variant games use multiple packs or add a few jokers). There are four suits in poker (spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs) and the highest hand wins.<\/p>\n
Each player starts the game by making a \u201cblind\u201d bet. Players who wish to participate then match or raise the blind. Once the betting is complete the dealer deals three community cards face up on the table, these are called the flop. These cards are available to all players. Then another round of betting takes place.<\/p>\n
Once the bets are made the dealer then puts a fourth card on the table which everyone can use (this is called the turn). Then there is another round of betting.<\/p>\n
Finally the last player to act (usually the person to the left of the button) must decide whether to fold or call. If they call then they must match the previous player\u2019s bet. If they fold then they must not take any more cards for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n
There are a number of different ways to play poker, but the most important thing is to always know your odds. The better you understand the odds of your hands, the more intelligently you can bet. Having a good understanding of your odds also helps you to determine when to bet with your best hand and when to bluff.
